Will and Kate Keep It Low-Key

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been married for about one-and-a-half years now, which means they’re reaching the end of the two-year “hall pass” that Queen Elizabeth reportedly gave them from official duties.

According to Hollywood Life, Queen Elizabeth promised Will and Kate that they could refrain from having a schedule jam-packed with royal obligations during their first two years of married life. Instead, Will and Kate can spend that time snuggled on the couch at home, watching movies and vegging out. (Allegedly Kate shops for clothes online, and the couple likes to watch movies together.)

Of course, they’re not on a total break. Will and Kate still need to make appearances at major events, like the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympics. Kate still goes to store openings, hospital openings and visits children. And who can forget their whirlwind tour of Canada shortly after their wedding?

But their current pace of life is reportedly slower than the pace they’ll experience at the end of this two-year period. Once they move into Kensington Palace, their schedule will accelerate. Princess Diana’s schedule was so packed that she reportedly had every hour of every day booked for a year in advance.

Their royal obligations might give them that same hectic pace later. For now, they’re keeping it mellow and enjoying marriage.
