Australian magazine Women’s Day has published Will and Kate honeymoon photos from the Seychelles, causing a massive stir.
Prince William and Kate are reportedly upset that private photos, featuring Kate in a black bikini and Will in swimming trunks, have been published. A spokesman for the royal Clarence House told the BBC: “The couple have asked that their privacy be respected during their honeymoon.”
The honeymoon photos are now displayed on almost every newsstand across Australia, and are now splashed across television.
Women’s Day won’t disclose why the photos emerged more than one year after the honeymoon. The magazine also won’t disclose who took the photos. The honeymoon pictures are grainy, obviously having been shot by a long-lens camera.
Most British newspapers and magazines have an agreement with Clarence House that they will refrain from paparazzi-like behavior, in exchange for limited access (interviews, photo ops) with the royals.
Prince William went to great lengths to throw reporters off his trail before his honeymoon. He announced he was returning to work as a Royal Air Force helicopter pilot immediately after the wedding — and, in fact, he did return to his Air Force base in Wales to work for two days prior to leaving for his honeymoon. He reportedly did this in order to calm down the media interest in him.
Meanwhile, the honeymoon destination was kept so secretive that Duchess Kate reportedly didn’t learn where she was going for her honeymoon until after she had already boarded the helicopter that whisked her off to a plane.
Several British newspapers learned that Will and Kate were honeymooning in the Seychelles, but decided not to send photographers there because of their “gentleman’s agreement” with the royals.
Meanwhile, people are now commenting on websites about how skinny Duchess Kate looks in the bikini photos. “Is Kate Middleton anorexic?,” asked one commenter, noting that her hip bones are protruding.
Prince William’s late mother, Princess Diana, battled with an eating disorder.
